red flag or green flag
this policy covers this app only. it says what the app collects, how it collects it, what it is used for, who else receives it, and how long it is kept.
the short version
- your files, reads, scans, moments and history are stored on your phone, not on our servers.
- ai features send text and redacted screenshots to google to be processed. nothing is sent until you agree to the ai disclosure in the app, and you can turn it off any time in settings.
- two features store content on our database on purpose, because they have to: a friends jury, and pairing. both are described below.
- we do not sell your data, we do not run ads, and we do not ask for your name, email, phone number or contacts.
what we collect, and how
| data | how it is collected | what it is used for |
|---|---|---|
| questionnaire answers, the moments you log, the subject's initials, relationship type, star sign, attachment style | typed by you in the app | generating your read |
| chat screenshots, redacted on your phone before they are sent | chosen by you from your photo library. faces we detect are pixelated and the contact name, @handles, emails and numbers we spot are blacked out on your device first. the message text is left readable, because that is what is being read. exif is stripped. | scan verdicts, reply suggestions, friends jury polls |
| message text you paste, and unsent drafts you paste | pasted or typed by you | reply suggestions and the draft check |
| your daily answer in pairing mode | typed by you | showing it to the partner you paired with |
| usage counters and app analytics: that a read, scan, jury or paywall view happened, verdict values as numbers, device model, os version, an app install identifier, an anonymous sign-in id | collected automatically by the app and by google firebase | counting usage and keeping the app working. these are collected whether or not ai is on. |
| a push notification token, only if you pair and allow notifications | issued by apple and firebase cloud messaging | telling you your partner answered |
your codename for a file never leaves your phone. only its initials are sent.
who else receives it
google llc, for ai processing
the read, scan, reply and draft check features are generated by google's gemini models, reached through firebase ai logic. what you send for those features goes over https from your phone to google, and the answer comes back. it is not stored on our servers. google's handling of that data is governed by the gemini api additional terms of service and the firebase privacy and security documentation. no ai feature runs, and nothing is sent, until you accept the in-app ai disclosure. turning ai off in settings stops it on the very next tap.
google firebase, as our hosting and database provider
our database, authentication, analytics, crash reporting and push delivery run on google firebase. the friends jury images and pairing answers described below are stored there. google processes that data on our behalf as our service provider under the firebase data processing and security terms.
apple
purchases and subscriptions are handled by apple and by revenuecat, our subscription manager. we never see your card details.
the two things that are stored on our database
friends jury
when you start a jury, the redacted copy of that screenshot is uploaded to our firebase database and a voting link is created. anyone you send that link to can open it and see the redacted screenshot and vote. the link is not listed or searchable anywhere, but it is not password protected either, so treat it like anything else you forward to a group chat. the jury and its image are deleted automatically 72 hours after you create it. nothing is uploaded until you accept the jury disclosure and tap start.
pairing
when you pair with someone and answer the daily question, your answer is stored in our firebase database so that your partner can see it once you have both answered. it stays there until you unpair. unpairing deletes the answers you wrote and removes you and your notification token from the pair.
what stays on your phone
files, reads, saved scans and their redacted images, moments, deck history and your settings are stored locally on your device. deleting the app deletes them. the free-usage counters are also kept in your icloud key-value store so a reinstall does not reset them.
on-device processing
screenshot redaction (face detection and text masking) runs entirely on your phone using apple's vision framework. the redaction step itself sends nothing anywhere. it is what happens after redaction, described above, that sends the redacted copy out.
children
this app is not for children under 13, and it is rated for a mature audience. it is entertainment and education, not therapy, diagnosis or advice.
your choices
- turn ai off at any time in settings. nothing further is sent.
- decline the jury disclosure and the screenshot never leaves your phone.
- close a jury early, or wait for the automatic 72 hour deletion.
- unpair to delete your stored pairing answers.
- delete the app to remove everything held on the device.
- ask us to delete anything else by emailing the address below.
